If you are new to UCSB's Sedgwick Reserve, please contact Heather Constable [email protected] and CC: Brenda Juarez [email protected] to discuss your project.
If you are planning a visit to Sedgwick this season, please submit your visit request as far in advance as possible. Your reservation may be declined given current road conditions, fire mitigation status, construction, capacity, and other activities on the reserve. We will do our best to accommodate you.
1. VISIT REQUESTS MUST BE MADE AT LEAST 3 BUSINESS DAYS IN ADVANCE. We have a very small staff and can only monitor RAMS part-time.
2. Include every members of your team on your reservation. Every individual must be listed on the approved reservation and sign the liability waiver included in your confirmation email.
3. Do not come to the reserve unless you have email confirmation of an approved visit request. Verbal authorization does not constitute an approved, documented reservation.
4. First time users and new projects should contact the reserve and make a reservation AT LEAST TWO WEEKS in advance. Plan to meet with staff for an orientation between 8am and 4pm M-F.
5. We do not have custodial staff. Overnight visitors are responsible for cleaning before departing. Housing checkout lists are posted in each building and on the bulletin board in the outdoor kitchen. Sedgwick Reserve reserves the right to charge for cleaning services provided at the following rates: Non-UC $46.50 per hours, UC $31.50 per hour.
Researcher Info: Documenting Study Site Alterations with Wildnote
As part of your visit to Sedgwick Reserve, please complete a quick Wildnote© survey whenever you alter a study site—such as installing or removing equipment, flagging locations, fencing, digging, seeding, or any other research-related changes or material removals. Be sure to include accurate GPS locations (available inside the Wildnote form) for all activities. You can pick up the Sedgwick Reserve iPad from the Tipton Meeting House to complete your survey, and we recommend watching the instructional video available on our website before your visit.
This helps reserve staff track on-the-ground activity, supports coordination across research projects, and ensures we maintain accurate site records. It also benefits you: we can provide your recorded metadata in PDF, KML, GDB, or XLSX formats for your own research use.
Thanks for supporting responsible research practices at Sedgwick!
